JOAK PARK was a monthly comedy and open mic showcase at District Kitchen and Tap (DKT) in Oak Park, hosted by Reuben Glaser and Matt Henry. In February of 2020 it went on an indefinite hiatus.
Joak Park started in August of 2018 and has since been called a 'weird and unusual show' by the Chicago Tribune, and was referred to as ‘Oak Park’s Second City’ by The Wednesday Journal. This monthly show, on the last Friday of every month, has built something of a reputation not only for helping secure Oak Park’s place in the storied Chicagoland comedy community and bringing in talent from out of the city, but for also just being a really weird and unconventional show. The Tribune dedicated an entire paragraph to a ‘punk rock, shirtless, skateboarding clown named Toke’ that we made up, if that tells you anything.
Joak Park also offers a unique format that blends comedy and improv, as well as a predetermined line-up of comedians mixed with open mic comedians, all of which are randomly selected from a bowl. You’d be hard-pressed to find a show with the same format anywhere in the area, which is either a good thing or a bad thing...
In its first year to date, Joak Park has attracted over 50 showcase comedians from the Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and the rest of the USA as well as from all around the globe.
Joak Park is a show that is meant to give everybody a warm and welcoming room to be weird, for everybody from touring comedians to a comedian trying open mic for the first time.
